HOPE
Action Mental Health are pleased to be working with the Education Authority to provide counselling and therapy in post primary schools across Northern Ireland. The HOPE Service is an independent service that conforms to high professional standards and current best practice for school-based counselling and therapy. The service provides individual and group counselling as well as drop-in sessions during the school term. You can find out more information about HOPE counselling at https://www.amh.org.uk/services/counselling/hopecounselling/
At any time, pupils at school may need additional emotional support, beyond the pastoral care that can be offered by teachers – and we know that when a child feels safe and supported in their school environment, they are better able to learn.
The most important relationships young people enjoy are often with parents and friends, however, we are confident that HOPE counselling offers a valuable additional resource to all our students. Counselling is particularly important at times when young people are struggling with concerns they may initially feel unable to discuss with parents or teachers. Our Pastoral Leaders and Community Wellbeing Lead work closely with the counsellors to ensure the best student support possible at difficult times.
Counselling will remain confidential except in circumstances where a student may be at risk of harm. Pastoral Leaders and the Community Wellbeing Lead can refer a student to our counselling service. Parents, carers and the student themselves can also make a referral online or by contacting school.
We welcome parental enquiries regarding the HOPE counselling service. Please contact the College if you would like to see our Counselling Policy. If you have any questions, concerns or objections to your child accessing this counselling service, again, simply contact us on 028 9266 3670.
The College works with a wide range of external agencies in order to ensure provision of comprehensive pastoral support for the entire College community. If you feel that your child or family need to access some support, please do not hesitate to contact the College for guidance and support.
